a new design for the panamera. look at it. i think it's a success. porsche worked hard to usethe 911's lines in the design. it has a longer, sloping butt; not thedrop-off rear of the previous panamera. the car has grown in all directions. it is longer, higher and wider, but it looks smaller. i think it is a good design. compare it to other business sedans. i think the audi a8 or mercedes s-classdo not look better, but i did so before.
the interior is completely different as well. where to begin? everything is new and different. it has a huge center display. it works nice and quickly. there are many options.you can adjust and set many things. you will have to go through this the first time,because you can set a lot to the driver and save it with a memory setting. there are so many things, you will have to takeyour time if you are ever going to buy this car. alright, the gopro is stuck on.
let's see if this works. 0-100 kph (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds. we are doing 180 kph (112 mph) already. let me keep my eyes on the road and see how farwe can go before there is another camper trailer. it is crazy how quiet and stable this car remains. it is really... it is the ultimate... i will slow down so you canhear me better; less wind. it eats up the miles.
going fast is effortless. we are driving the diesel version,so we have a nice range. you drive it to southern austriain one go after work on friday, to your favorite ski area or your own chalet. if you can afford a panamera, you canafford your own cottage in a ski area. you will go skiing for two daysand go back on sunday evening. monday morning you sit atthe board meeting. no problem. wonderful. we are driving the 4s diesel version.
it has 416 hp. that is not the most exciting number. more so, it is the least powerful panamerayou can order at the moment. there are the normal 4s with 444 hpand the turbo with 542 hp. crazy cars, of course. we will see a lot of the diesels. it is nice to finally have this engine in the panamera. the v8 did not fit in the previous panamera. that is why we had to wait for the new one to makethe v8, which we know from the cayenne, fit.
what an engine. 416 hp, 850 nm (627 lb ft) torque. if you order it with a sport plus package,it does 0-100 kph (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds. porsche says this makes it the fastestdiesel car you can buy at the moment. i am ready to believe that.i do not know what car is faster. if you want a gasoline engine,you get to choose from two engines, but there will be more.there will be a turbo s, a gts... all flavors of the previous panamera will be made. even though the car has grown...it is lighter, but bigger. it does not feel like you are driving a huge car.
of course, you can get the optional sport plus unit. this gives you the switch onthe steering wheel you can turn from... it is in comfort mode now.in sport it shifts down a gear. in sport plus it shifts down another gear. fun. you can also choose individualfor your own settings. it changes the suspension, everything. porsche tried to create a wide rangebetween very comfortable and very sporty. i am now in 'very sporty' because we droveon the autobahn and i wanted to feel good. i switch to comfort now and youfeel all the roughness disappear.
it sways a bit more. you can almost call it soft, but it isn't. you set all this in the new center console. a lot of buttons disappeared. those who knew the previous panamera knowit was the car with the most buttons ever made. it is bizarre. there were somany buttons for the a/c and everything. porsche minimized this as much as possible. only the things you really need, such asthe suspension settings and esp switch, you can change with the touch of a button.
it is a kind of touch panel, but it has hapticfeedback. you feel you are doing something. a lot has been hidden in the centraldisplay, where all the car's settings, such as climate control, can be set up. fortunately, climate control has a unit onthe center console for quick adjustments. another new thing is the instrument cluster. porsche probably cheated with audi or volkswagen. their virtual cockpit was copied here. the central gauge, the rev counter,is still analogous. i think that is cool, becausethe old 911s had a row of gauges.
you can change it by turning this button. there are 5 gauges in a row. i can set my lap timer, g-forces, or normal clock. however, the central gauge,the rev counter, remained analogous. i think that is cool they did this,because it is what a porsche should have. it is a characteristic porsche design element. i think they should keep this, evenwhen everyone uses only digital stuff. the typical porsche sports-car feel is everywhere. the handling is nice and sporty.
it is sportier than you wouldexpect from a business sedan. by switching everything to 'soft', i can drive relaxed. yet, everything remains typically porsche. i think that is well done, because this caris far removed from the brand's core value. still, they did it. if i would want to buy a bigger,sporty car, i would know. the problem is money, because this isa porsche and not the cheapest car in the world. at the moment it starts at133,000 euros for the panamera 4s. there will probably be a normalpanamera below it; the non-s.
